Hi, let me introduce us. My name is Gary and my wife, Anita. We started cruising in the early 1980’s and after our first cruise we were hooked. We now have passed our 100th cruise this year. Our first ship was on the Chandris Cruise Line which later became Celebrity Cruise Line. We had an inside cabin for a Monday to Friday cruise that cost about $550 then. Those were the days of midnight buffets, sitting at a large table and making new friends. You paid your tips in cash at the end of the cruise to your waiter, busboy and room steward. No drink packages, just about $2.00 a drink then. The only specialty dining was the steakhouse. You could drive a golf ball off the rear of the ship and skeet shooting on the side of the ship. Those were the days.

In over 45 years that we have been cruising we have experienced seven different lines, Chandris, Carnival, NCL, RCCL, Princess, Celebrity and Virgin Voyages. We found each cruise line has its own personality. Some cruise lines are family oriented with water slides, go cart racetracks; some are more port intensive; some make the ship the destination, some more resort like and now there are two with no children under 18. We have tried them all. Then there’s price. Contemporary, Premium, Luxury and even ultra luxury. There is a big difference there too. Each one of those has their advantages.

Destinations are limited to the 7 continents. The oceans are large my friends. We have cruised to almost every Caribbean Country, several Central & S. America Countries, went thru both Panama Canals. We have been to Alaska three times, Fall Foliage cruise: N.Y. to Halifax and Europe staying in Rome to see the sites. We have even been to China on a land tour. Personally, I would love to sail to the South Pole and see Penguins by the thousands in their natural habitat. You can cruise up or down the Amazon River and River cruises throughout Europe. How about a train journey in India, Japan, Europe, Canada and South America. Thinking about an all-inclusive land vacation?

My experience from taking so many cruises is much different than a sales agent who has learned what to tell you from what the cruise lines tell them to say. As they say, “been there, done that”.
